Cubaris murina – Glacier Isopods
Cubaris murina, the Glacier morph, are a hardy and attractive isopod species popular in bioactive terrariums and vivariums. Their compact size, calm behaviour, and unique coloration make them ideal for both beginners and experienced keepers seeking a reliable clean-up crew.
Glacier Isopods thrive in warm, humid environments with plenty of leaf litter, cork bark, and hiding spots. A substrate rich in organic matter supports healthy colonies and encourages natural burrowing behaviour. These isopods help break down waste, mould, and decaying plant material, contributing to a stable, self-sustaining ecosystem.
Known for their soft grey to bluish tones, Cubaris murina Glacier morphs add subtle visual interest to planted enclosures. They coexist well with reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates that require similar humidity levels. With proper care, a small starter group quickly establishes a thriving population.
One of my personal favourites.
