Porcelain Ghost Cockroach – Gyna caffrorum
Known as the porcelain or "porcelain ghost" cockroach, Gyna caffrorum is an attractive species of cockroach valued primarily in terrariums. It is characterized by a light cream to porcelain coloration of its wings and a calm, inconspicuous behavior, which makes it popular as a foraging and ornamental species.
This cockroach is native to Africa and prefers warmer, humid environments with plenty of shelter. In captivity, it is kept in a well-ventilated box or terrarium with a layer of substrate, cork bark and leaves. A high-quality mixture of vegetables, fruits and dry insect food, supplemented with a source of calcium, will suffice as food.
The Porcelain ghost cockroach is relatively easy to breed and multiplies quickly, making it a suitable species for both beginners and experienced reptile and invertebrate breeders. Due to its appearance and mild odor, it is often preferred over more common feeding cockroaches.
