Hierodula venosa – Golden Arm Mantis

Description of the species Hierodula venosa

Hierodula venosa, also known as Golden Arm Mantis, is an attractive species of praying mantis native to the tropical regions of Asia. It is characterized by strikingly colored forelimbs with a golden tinge, which makes it a highly sought-after species among praying mantis breeders and lovers of exotic insects. Its robust body, distinctive coloration and active nature make it an interesting subject for long-term observation and close-up photography.

Environment, breeding and feeding

This species of praying mantis prefers a warmer and more humid environment with plenty of vertical areas to climb, such as branches, plants or terrarium decorations. The Golden Arm Mantis is an active predator and feeds mainly on insects of the appropriate size, such as crickets, cockroaches or flies. With proper care, stable conditions and regular feeding, it reaches adulthood within a few months and lives for about one year, with females tending to be significantly larger and more robust than males.

Suitability for breeders and terrarium owners

Hierodula venosa is especially suitable for more experienced praying mantis breeders, who can ensure a stable temperature, higher humidity, plenty of space and safe feeding of feeding insects. Thanks to its attractive appearance, golden forelimbs and interesting behavior, it is one of the most interesting species of praying mantis available in terrarium and is often part of specialized collections of exotic insects and terrarium animals.
