Porcellionides pruinosus - Orange Koi Isopods
Porcellionides pruinosus Orange Koi are popular terrarium isopods known for their distinctive orange coloration and active behaviour. Thanks to its size, rapid reproduction and attractive appearance, it is one of the most commonly bred species in bioactive terrariums and as an independent breeding colony.
Characteristics and appearance
Orange Koi, a variant of Porcellionides pruinosus, is characterized by a deep orange to marbled pattern that stands out on a dark substrate. Adults grow approximately 1–1.5 cm and are very mobile. This species is unpretentious and suitable even for novice isopod breeders.
Breeding and conditions
For the successful breeding of Orange Koi isopods, a high-quality substrate, sufficient shelters and stable humidity are important. A bioactive mixture with an admixture of leaf and pieces of rotting wood is ideal. The colony will also appreciate the bark, moss and leaves, which provide shelter and a natural source of food.
