Red Runner Cockroaches
Red runner cockroaches, also known as Turkestan roaches, are a popular feeder insect for reptiles, amphibians, arachnids, and other insectivorous pets. Their active movement, soft bodies, and manageable size make them an excellent alternative to crickets and dubia roaches for many keepers and breeders.
These roaches are typically red to dark brown in color, with males having longer wings and females appearing shorter and more robust. Red runners are fast-moving, highly active, and do not climb smooth surfaces, which makes them easier to contain and maintain in a dedicated feeder colony.
Benefits of Red Runner Cockroaches as Feeders
- High activity level that stimulates natural hunting behavior in pets
- Soft exoskeleton that is easy to digest for most insectivores
- Rapid reproduction, providing a steady and reliable food source
- Low odor and simple care requirements compared to many other feeders
Red runner cockroaches thrive in warm, dry environments with plenty of hiding places such as egg cartons or cardboard tubes. A diet of quality grains, fresh fruits, and vegetables helps maintain a nutritious feeder colony.
