Lasiodora parahybana – Salmon Pink Tarantula
Description of Lasiodora parahybana
Lasiodora parahybana, known as Salmon Pink Tarantula or Salmon Pink Tarantula, is one of the largest tarantula species in the world and a favourite in the exotic arachnid hobby. Native to northeastern Brazil, it stands out for its imposing size, rapid growth and the characteristic pink hairs on its legs, which give it its common name.
Behaviour and character
This species is highly prized for its striking appearance and generally calm demeanour for a large tarantula. However, it can show defensive attitudes and shed stinging hairs when it feels threatened, so it is considered a species of limited management. Thanks to its robustness, strength and ease of adaptation, it is usually recommended for hobbyists with some previous experience in the maintenance of large terrestrial tarantulas.
Captive care
In captivity, Salmon Pink Tarantula requires a spacious terrarium, with deep substrate for burrowing, adequate shelters, and moderate humidity to replicate its natural habitat. A varied diet based on good-sized insects, such as crickets, cockroaches and other invertebrates, favour's their rapid development and healthy growth. With proper care, Lasiodora parahybana can reach a long life expectancy and become an outstanding specimen within any collection of exotic arachnids and tarantulas.
