Heteroscodra maculata, commonly known as the Togo Starburst Tarantula, is a striking Old World arboreal tarantula species prized by enthusiasts for its bold patterning, impressive speed, and unique behavior. Native to West Africa, this species displays a beautiful mix of white, grey, and brown markings that create a distinctive starburst effect across the carapace and legs, making it one of the more visually impressive arboreal tarantulas in the hobby.

Temperament and enclosure requirements

This species is known for a defensive temperament and potent venom, which makes the Togo Starburst Tarantula more suitable for experienced tarantula keepers rather than beginners. As an arboreal tarantula, it thrives in vertically oriented enclosures with ample cork bark for climbing, secure hides for retreat, and good cross-ventilation.
