P. Irminia – Venezuelan Suntiger Tarantula

The Venezuelan Suntiger Tarantula, Psalmopoeus irminia, is a striking New World arboreal species prized for its bold black coloration contrasted with vivid orange markings. Native to the tropical forests of Venezuela and nearby regions, this fast, secretive tarantula is a favourite among experienced keepers seeking a visually stunning display spider.

Psalmopoeus irminia Care and Habitat

This species thrives in a vertically oriented enclosure that mimics a humid forest environment. Deep substrate, ample cork bark, and foliage provide secure hiding spots and climbing opportunities. Moderate to high humidity with good ventilation, along with a warm temperature range, supports healthy growth and natural behaviour.

Temperament and Handling

The Venezuelan Suntiger is known for its speed and defensive nature, making it better suited to observation than handling. While it lacks urticating hairs, it can deliver a medically significant bite if provoked. Calm, deliberate maintenance and secure enclosures help reduce stress for both keeper and tarantula.
